Paderborn is a city in the German province of Detmold, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Paderborn Kreis is the county seat of Paderborn. The name of the city is formed from the Pader River and the word “born” meaning “source”. The Pader River originates from around 200 springs located next to Paderborn Cathedral. Paderborn’s population was estimated at 143,659 (as of the end of 2013).
