RWTH Aachen; Rheinisch Westfalische Technische Hochschule Aachen, with its long name, is a technical university in Germany.

Located in Aachen, Germany, this university also provides education in branches other than engineering sciences. The institution has a reputation especially in machinery, metallurgy, electrical-electronics, computer and industrial engineering, as well as chemistry and physics.[4][5] In 2007, it was included among the outstanding German universities (Universities of Excellence) by DFG.[6]

It is a member of international organizations such as The IDEA League, the TU 9, the Eurogio-University-Cooperation ALMA.

It was founded in 1870 to train mining engineers in the Ruhr region with 32 teachers and 223 students. RWTH Aachen, which received the title of technical university in 1880, recovered between 1925 and 1932, despite a serious setback period during World War I.

Between the years 1933-1945, under the pressure of the Nazis, the university interrupted its scientific studies for a year during the Second World War due to its proximity to the Dutch and Belgian borders.
